Small events- Karen Kimmel art camp

Los Angeles-based installation artist and designer Karen Kimmel has one foolproof rule for teaching kids and grown-ups to appreciate art. Make it a party. Following the success of her ongoing "Art of Exchange" stencil workshops and the launch of her beautiful laser-cut stencil kits, the multi-talented mom of two recently brought over 50 families together at a two-day art camp in Palm Springs at the Ace Hotel.

Here's how the weekend went down:

The 48-hour adventure included everything from s'mores under the stars to a family movie night with luminescent glow sticks.  The art workshops ranged from designing your own Converse sneakers, to macramé, dioramas, and jewelry design made of scraps of cloth donated by American Apparel.  Parents joined the activities too, as one proud mom told us her scrap necklace was inspired by vintage Lanvin.  Evenings were spent with family style dinners (Taco night being the favorite) gathered around the camp fire.
